Between 1995 and 2004 Otis, KONE, Schindler, ThyssenKrupp groups and 17 of their subsidiaries have participated in illegal price fixing cartels in Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. Additionally, Mitsubishi Elevator Europe BV participated in the Dutch cartel. The cartel concerns both the installation and the maintenance of elevators and escalators.

The European Commission has fined the aforementioned companies over € 992.000.000 in total. Mitsubishi Elevator Europe BV has been fined for participation in the Netherlands. These sanctions have been the highest ever imposed by the European Commission for antitrust violations.
