East-West Debt was established in 1996 when a small group of Dutch and Belgium economists, councillors and bankers realised that conventional one-dimensional approaches to debt recovery on emerging markets and political risk countries were ineffective, or worse, terribly flawed.

It was obvious that just obtaining verdicts in reality was not enough to ensure payment by debtors. Assets were hard to find and difficult to attach. Furthermore, litigation could prove detrimental to future business endeavours in emerging (growing) markets.

That is why the founders of East-West Debt decided to approach these types of bank and trade debts in a fresh, innovative manner. This has resulted in a healthy still growing enterprise and we are proud to say that the founders are still active in the company. After a period of growth, East-West Debt moved its offices from its original location on the Scheldt River to a prime location in the heart of Antwerp's business district to a majestic location on "the Meir" in 2001.

Our supporting offices in the UK and The Netherlands are all managed through our head office in Antwerp.
